As you are aware, the 2018-19 Legislative Session has just come to a close. As you also are aware, law enforcement had one of the most challenging sessions ever. Nearly all of PORAC’s political efforts were spent either on defense or in active opposition to very egregious measures sponsored by the ACLU, Black Lives Matter and other “social justice” organizations – most of whom have come into existence since Ferguson. Fortunately, PORAC was able to defeat many of these bills including the most dangerous legislation introduced in our time, AB 931 (Weber). In addition to the many attacks on the law enforcement profession itself, this session also proved to be a potential foreshadowing for the 2020 election as it relates to pension reform. Although, many of the pension takeaway bills over the past two years were sponsored by just a handful of legislators, their impacts would have been devastating. Finally, PORAC was successful in protecting, as well as expanding, our work comp and presumption laws. Attached is a brief update of PORAC’s priority bills for 2018, categorized by subject matter with links to the actual language.
